Kerala style Beef Cutlet

Ingredients
  • Beef - 500 Grams, cut into small pieces
  • Potatoes - 3 Medium sized [ 350 - 400 Grams approx: ]
  • Eggs - 2 large, beaten
  • Bread Crumbs as required
  • Vegetable oil as required to deep fry the cutlets
For Marination:
  • Turmeric powder – 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Red chilli powder - 1 Tablespoon
  • Pepper powder – ½ Tablespoon
  • Ginger - Garlic paste – 1 Tablespoon
  • Salt - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Water - 1/4 cup
For Masala:
  • Finely sliced Red Pearl Onions – 2 cups
  • Finely chopped Ginger - 1 Tablespoon
  • Finely chopped Garlic - 1 Tablespoon
  • Green chilli – 2 to 3 Nos, finely chopped
  • Curry leaves - 4 to 5 Nos, finely chopped
  • Garam Masala - 1 Teaspoon
  • Pepper powder - 1 Teaspoon, adjust according to your taste
  • Coconut Oil - 2 Tablespoon
  • Salt to taste
Directions
    Initial Preparation:
    1. Cook the potatoes. Allow to cool, remove the skin, slightly mash and set aside.
    2. Clean and wash the beef pieces. Drain the water completely.
    3. Marinate the beef pieces with the ingredients listed under 'For marination' in a pressure cooker, set aside for 10 - 15 minutes.
    4. Cook for about 4 to 5 whistles or until the beef is cooked well.
    5. Once the pressure is settled down, open the cooker and roast the beef pieces until the water content evaporates completely. Let it cool completely.
    6. Once cooled, mince the beef pieces using the pulse option of a mixer grinder. Set aside.
    Cutlet Preparation:
    1. Heat 2 tablespoon of coconut oil in a pan.
    2. Add in the sliced red pearl onions, finely chopped garlic, ginger, green chillies, curry leaves and saute till it turns light brown in color.
    3. Now add in the garam masala and saute for a minute.
    4. Then add the minced beef and combine well.
    5. Add in 1 teaspoon black pepper powder and enough salt and mix well. Allow to cool.
    6. Once cooled add in the mashed potatoes and mix well using your hands.
    7. Adjust the pepper powder and salt at this stage according to your preference.
    8. Make lemon sized balls out of the mixture, then roll them into desired shapes.
    9. First, dip each cutlet into the beaten eggs and then roll it into the bread crumbs. Make sure the bread crumbs coated evenly in the cutlet.
    10. Continue the process to coat all the cutlets and set aside.
    Frying Cutlets:
    1. Heat enough oil to deep fry in a heavy bottomed pan.
    2. Once the oil is hot, add the prepared cutlets in small batches and deep fry until golden brown on medium heat.
    3. Once the cutlets turns golden brown in color, remove from oil and transfer to a paper towel.
    4. Serve hot and enjoy :)
