Ingredients
- Beef - 1 KG, cut into small pieces
For Marination:
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 Teaspoon,
- Red chilli powder - 1 Tablespoon
- Black pepper powder - 1 Teaspoon
- Garam masala powder - 1 Teaspoon
- Water - 1/2 - 3/4 cup
- Salt - 1 Teaspoon
For Masala:
- Coconut oil - 2-3 Tablespoon
- Mustard seeds - 1 Teaspoon
- Fennel seeds - 1 Teaspoon
- Dried red chillies - 2 - 3 Nos
- Coconut slices - 1/2 cup
- Garlic - 2 pods, OR 20 - 25 cloves OR 75 - 80 Grams
- Ginger - 2 inch piece, OR 35-45 Grams
- Green Chillies - 3 - 4 Nos, slit
- Curry leaves - 2 sprig
- Onion - 2 medium, OR 300 Grams, thinly sliced
- Coriander Powder - 1 Tablespoon
- Kashmiri Chilli Powder - 1 Tablespoon
- Fenugreek powder - a pinch
- Asafoetida Powder - a pinch
- Garam Masala Powder - 1 Teaspoon
- Salt to taste
For Final Mixing:
- Coconut oil - 1 - 2 Tablespoon
- A handful of Thinly sliced Onion, approx: 100 Grams
- Curry Leaves, 1 - 2 sprig
Directions
Initial Preparation:
- Cut the beef into small pieces. Clean and wash the beef pieces and strain the water.
- In a pressure cooker, add the cleaned beef pieces and the ingredients mentioned under 'For Marination', mix well and set aside for 30 minutes.
- Pressure cook the beef for about 4 - 8 whistles or until the beef is cooked well and keep it aside.
Masala Preparation:
- Heat 2-3 tablespoon of coconut oil in a heavy bottomed pan, and splutter mustard seeds.
- Add in the fennel seeds, dried red chillies and fry for few seconds.
- Then add in the coconut slices and fry until it turns light golden in color.
- Now add in the sliced garlic chopped ginger, green chillies , curry leaves and saute until the raw smell goes away.
- Then add in the thinly sliced onions and saute until it becomes light golden in color. A little salt can be added to make the onion soft quickly.
- Once the onion is fried well, add in the coriander powder and saute on medium heat for 2 minutes.
- Then add in the Kashmiri chili powder, fenugreek powder, asafoetida powder, garam masala powder and saute for 1-2 minutes on low heat.
- Once the masala powders are roasted well, add in the cooked beef along with gravy and mix well.
- Then cover and cook for 5 minutes.
- Then open the pan and cook uncovered until all the water dries up.
- Once the water dries up, add 1 - 2 tablespoons of coconut oil, and roast it well.
- Then add a handful of thinly sliced onions, enough curry leaves and salt if required and mix well.
- Serve hot with Flaky Kerala parotta, Chappathi or Rice.
