Ingredients
- Fish, any variety - I used Indian Mackerel ( Ayala ) - 500 Grams
- Coconut Oil - 1/2 cup
For Marination:
- Turmeric Powder - 1/2 Teaspoon
- Red Chilli Powder - 1/2 Tablespoon
- Kashmiri Red Chilli Powder - 2 1/2 Tablespoons
- Fenugreek Powder - 1/4 Teaspoon
- Asafoetida Powder - 1/8 Teaspoon
- Salt to taste [ approx: 3/4 - 1 Teaspoon ]
- Water as required [ approx: 2 - 3 Tablespoon ]
For Coconut Masala:
- Grated Coconut - 1/2 - 3/4 cup
- Leftover Marinade - 1 - 2 Teaspoon, adjust according to your taste preference
- Curry leaves
Directions
Initial Preparation & Marination:
- Clean, wash and make some deep gashes on each side of the fish. Drain the water completely.
- In a pan, mix together the turmeric powder, red chilli powder, kashmiri chilli powder, asfoetida power, fenugreek powder, lime juice, salt by adding little water and make a thick paste.
- Marinate the fish with this masala. Make sure to apply the masala in the gashes and inside of the stomach cavity. Set aside for 10 -15 minutes.
Frying the Fish & Masala Preparation:
- Heat 1/2 cup coconut oil in a heavy bottomed pan.
- Fry the fish until slightly golden brown in color on low-medium heat. It will take approx: 3-4 minutes for each side.
- While frying the fish, let's prepare the coconut masala. This is completely optional, but recommended.
- In a bowl, mix together grated coconut, leftover marinade, curry leaves and set aside.
- Once one side of the fish is ready, flip to other side and continue frying for another 3 - 4 minutes.
- Once the fish is ready, transfer to a serving dish and start preparing the coconut masala.
- Transfer the prepared coconut masala into the same pan, and fry until slightly golden in color on low-medium heat.
- Once ready serve it with the fried fish and enjoy.
NOTES
